Walk at the Beach
Beautiful, original 12 x 16 inch soft pastel painting inspired by Joaquín Sorolla's luminous plein-air portrait of his daughter, Walk at the Beach.
This is an original pastel painting by Kelly Crumpley, an American artist working in watercolor, oil, and soft pastel. A member of the National Watercolor Society, Stanwood Camano Art Guild, and Camano Art Association, Kelly finds inspiration in nature, the ocean, gardens, travel, and the beautiful fleeting moments of everyday life.
Inspired by Sorolla's beloved Walk on the Beach, this painting captures the quiet elegance of a seaside stroll beneath the brilliant Mediterranean sun. There is something timeless about walking beside the water with someone you love—the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the feeling of having nowhere else to be. Sorolla's figures seem to move effortlessly through the landscape, their flowing clothing catching the sea breeze and sunlight as she walks along the shore.
Kelly was drawn to the way Sorolla transformed an ordinary walk into something luminous and dreamlike. Through soft pastel, she explored the shifting light, delicate movement of fabric, and sparkling atmosphere of the beach, allowing expressive marks and layers of color to create the feeling of a warm, beautiful day beside the sea.
For Kelly, painting is about more than creating an image—it is about being present in a moment and giving herself permission to explore something new. After working primarily in digital art earlier in her career, she turned to traditional painting later in life and discovered that she couldn't live without paint. Her work is an ongoing exploration of beauty, emotion, memory, and the simple joy of creating.
